Is it just me or does it seem like laptops last only a few years and completely break down, which only makes sense. Laptops go through a tremendous amount of domestic abuse from it’s owners so it’s just a matter of time before they become completely useless. There are literally a hundred things that can go wrong on any given day, so it’s a wonder how the convenience can outweigh the cost. But people still flock to purchase a laptop, fill it’s hard drive full of important irreplaceable documents, then wet their pants when they lose it all. I guess that’s just the price we pay to look cool at Starbucks. It’s really not enough to look cool with your steaming hot cup of bean juice, they need to have a laptop to spill that bean juice all over. I hope you have some extra pairs of diapers. For this reason I feel it’s my civic duty to at least educate my 10 readers on what laptop brands are considered the most reliable.
It may come as a shocker, but Toshiba and Asus are considered the most reliable laptops based on data collected by SquareTrade, a third party warranty provider. Three years of data was used to compare the failure rate of some of the top laptop brands, the following graph shows the results.

If you can take anything away from this data you should learn to never buy an American brand. Seriously, we all know these laptops are manufactured in China, so why does American brand laptops fail so much more. It’s because they intentionally want their crappy laptops to break so consumers can foolishly buy another one.
I was actually surprised to know that Toshiba topped the list of being the most reliable. When I first saw this computer at Walmart, and noticed their extremely low price tag, I automatically assumed they were of low quality. I have now come to realize that my next laptop purchase will be a Toshiba, and I will never doubt Japanese ingenuity again. As a web developer, having a reliable computer is one of my top priorities. I thought that Curiosity Media was the only company that offered quality at an affordable price, but it’s good to know that Toshiba can now be part of my exclusive club. Also I will not apologize for that shameless plug, so just forget about it and buy yourself a Toshiba, you will not regret it.

I just heard recently that Dell has been selling computers that they knew were going to malfunction. Businesses have lost tons of data because Dell didn’t do the right thing. Now they are paying out millions of dollars. Just another story of an american company cutting too many corners.

While an interesting and helpful article, I dont understand why this article is so focussed on Toshiba. The graph shows that Asus are more reliable (albeit slightly), and yet the author states that they \topped the list of being the most reliable\. While I could understand that they are promoted here because they are generally cheaper, the author of this article really needs to actually bother to look at stats first.

I did say Asus and Toshiba were both the most reliable laptop. But I’ve actually never heard of Asus before I saw the data. Toshiba is just a brand that I am more familiar with. That is why I talk more about it, because I’m using my life experience to make a point. Thanks for the comments by the way

Keep in mind the study also shows (if you read the whole - actual - study) that cheaper lines fail more than higher ones. So while Toshiba may have a low failure rate compared to HP, the cheap Toshiba’s will still fail more than the expensive ones, on average. So while running to buy a cheap Toshiba is smarter than buying a cheap HP (on average), it does not mean that buying a cheap Toshiba will not leave you in the lurch. You are still better off buying a somehwat higher priced machine (ie dedicated graphics card instead of onboard, etc.) than buying “cheap” bottom of the barrel ones.

You make a good point, but a $500 to $600 Toshiba is so damn cheap.
