Sick of all those lenses you have to purchase for your DSLR? Canon is in development of a camera that can go from macro all the way to 500mm focal length. It is technically a video camera, but with resolution so crisp that you could take a frame and use it in a large format print. That would literally solve the problem from those group photos where the one douche in the whole shot has his eyes closed. The camera can also determine the correct depth of field based on it’s advanced face recognition technology. The release of the Canon Wonder Camera is set out for a 2030 release.
Think this is more fiction than reality? Well think about where we were 20 years ago. New Kids on the Block, cassette tapes, cellphones the size of a brick, and windows 3.0. Now we can listen to new kids on the block and emulate windows 3.0 all on a cellphone the size of cassette tape (Don’t expect anyone younger than 20 to know what this is). A lot can happen in 20 years, so it’s just a matter of time before technology allows every tom, dick, and harry to be a great photographer. The profession as we know it will be dead, and the Canon Wonder Camera killed it.
Now don’t go pissing in your pants, they still haven’t figured out the mystery of accurate Exposure, and a camera cannot replace great lighting techniques. So maybe there still will be jobs for some photographers. But I expect the bottom of the barrel hacks will have to collect checks in the unemployment lines by 2030. I’m surprised they aren’t collecting checks right now. Why do these hacks refuse to learn about composition, color, and lighting. They then proceed to charge prices that are way above their skill level. Just because you have a D3 doesn’t mean you are good.
So it will definitely be interesting to see the release of the Canon Wonder Camera. The sleek hairdryer shape would definitely be fun to carry around.
So let us know what your feelings are about the Canon Wonder Camera, will it be a game changer?
