My take on Bruce Pardo the Santa ShooterBy John Kim | December 27th, 2008 |
If you haven’t caught the news in the past few days, you would probably have heard of a man dressed up as Santa Killing 9 people and himself. His name is Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, and the ones who died were family members of his ex wife. The full story isn’t known, but it’s expected that this tragic event was triggered from his recent divorce.
Some new information about Bruce revealed that he had a son from a previous relationship. While looking after his toddler son, the boy fell into a pool, an accident which left him brain dead. The total medical cost to save his son was $350k, an amount that was too much for Bruce, which was why he abandoned his son and his girlfriend at that time. Being sued by his girlfriend later, Bruce lost and had to pay $100,000 spread out in monthly payments of $240 dollars for the rest of his life.
It’s obvious that Bruce is a bad guy, but I can understand what made him explode. Desperate men, can do desperate things, and a broke man is as desperate as they come. It’s a bit twisted, but I believe that if Bruce was never faced with that $350k medical bill, then maybe those 9 people would still be alive today. Losing a lawsuit, and having to pay $240 every month, plus going through a divorce which probably hit his wallet hard. I bet Bruce Pardo was thinking that he was already hurt once, and getting hurt again wasn’t going to be an option. So instead of just ending his own life, he went homicidal, and he knew that he had nothing to lose.
But this tragedy should never have happened. If only the medical insurance in this country wasn’t so screwed up, no one would’ve had to die that night. Does it sound right that Americans should be stripped of everything they’ve worked hard for because of medical bills? Bruce’s story is an extreme case of what could happen from outlandish Medical costs, but lesser misfortunes happen every day because of this. America needs some serious reform in it’s healthy system, I’m ashamed at the way we govern this nation. If we don’t do anything we will push ourselves over the cliff, which seems like it’s already happening. Obama better prove himself
