Selective Color with PhotoshopBy John Kim | December 26th, 2008 |
In this tutorial I will teach you how to do a selective color with Photoshop
results:

1.The first step in doing a selective color is to choose the “polygon lasso tool”
![]()
2. Select the region where the color will stay the same, and your selection doesn’t have to be exact. Remember to pick a area with solid colors.

3. The go to “Select > Color Range” in the top menu

4. In the Color Range window, choose the eyedropper, and select a color, and then choose the eyedropper with a plus sign on it. Then drag it through the view so that you get a solid white silhouette like in the example. Also mess around with the fuzziness until everything is perfect.

5. Now press OK and you will see only that color is selected.

6. Then go to Select > Inverse to invert the selection

7. Finally you will go to your layer window, click on the adjustment layer, and go to ‘Black & White’. You will see that now everything but the color you selected is now black and white. Play around with the setting to get the most optimal results.

So now you know how to do a selective color. Go and brag to your friends, and they will realize what a jerk you’ve become since you started learning Photoshop.
