Curiosity Media Celebrates One Year Baby!By John Kim | December 30th, 2009
|

Around last December we had the soft launch of Curiosity-Media which quietly went unnoticed. Since that time we have worked on several web projects, were photographers for 3 weddings, 2 birthday parties, and an engagement session. All this was stemmed from pure determination and drive to prove that we could successfully start and run a business. We experimented with many ideas this year, and that experience will be used for future growth of our company, which still has a long ways to go.

Seaside Ice Pictures by Curiosity MediaBy Jenny Kim | December 26th, 2009
|
On December 19, 2009, in order to prepare an event located in Redondo Beach we decided to practice some photography around the Pier. Fortunately, there was an outdoor ice skating event called Seaside Ice. While snapping some shots, the Executive Producer of the event approached us and told us how he forgot to book a photographer and needed our help. So we saw this as a good marketing opportunity and agreed to help him out. We went ahead and took about 18 pictures, for free, and made sure we watermark every image before we emailed it to him. I don’t suppose he’ll ever contact us back but at least he’ll realize he can’t get something for free. So here is a slide show we made from the Seaside Ice event. Enjoy!

Thinking about doing a Bromance Photo SessionBy John Kim | December 14th, 2009
|

I just finished watching ‘I Love You Man’ with my lovely “WIFE”, emphasis on “Wife” to make sure no one gets any strange ideas about my sexual preference. But I found myself relating to a lot of the issues in the movie. I mean sometimes I have to make that hard decision between spending time with my guy friends or spending time with my lovely “WIFE (female)”. Before I met my wife I was all about the bromance, I used to go on man-dates every day of the week with some of my close friends. We dined at fast food restaurants, played basketball till we were drenched in man-sweat, and stayed up till early morn discussing who would win in a fight, superman or batman. Now I’m married and need to ask permission to go on a man-date, but the bromance lives on.

RedirectMatch, The Smart Way to 301 RedirectBy John Kim | December 11th, 2009
|
I had recently had an issue with a website where two different URL’s pointed to the exact same page. The website serves up dynamic content, and generates products pages on the fly, which is the norm for e-commerce sites. But instead of using a query string, we use the mod rewrite to change the url into a prettier form (mod rewrite). The issue is that when I inherited the site, the previous developer had used the url in this form.

Photography Laws in the United StatesBy John Kim | December 3rd, 2009 |
I came across an article a few days ago discussing the Photography Laws in the USA. As I have always been cautious about over stepping my bounds when I am capturing images, it is always good to know what I can and can’t do. And for anyone aspiring to start a career into photography, you should definitely read the guide linked in this article as it could save you one day. But remember that this is only a loose guideline to the Photography Laws in the USA, and if you really need professional advice you should consult a lawyer.

Lego Matrix, Trinity SceneBy John Kim | December 1st, 2009 |
I’ve been playing Batman Legos Wii Game for about a month now, and it’s rekindled my Lego passion. But when I stumbled upon this stop motion video that combines one of my favorite movies, The Matrix, and my new rekindled passion for Legos. I couldn’t resist but to share it with my 10 readers out there. This small clip took about 1 year to complete, so enjoy the Lego Matrix.

Internships, the Modern Day SlaveryBy John Kim | November 20th, 2009 |

Some of the greatest empires in society has been built on cheap labor. 25% of the Roman Empire, and 30% - 40% of Italy were slaves. During the peak of the United Kingdoms power, 5% of their population were slaves. And for those of us who grew up in America, we’ve all heard about the horrors of slavery time and time again. Slavery were vital economic pillars of society that allowed these nations to grow in power. Although slavery has been abolished in most developed countries today, with all the loop holes, modern day slavery still exists in the form of outsourcing, migrant workers, and something called an “Internship”.

XML Loaded Banner Rotator in Flash CS4By John Kim | November 13th, 2009 |
I just recently finished a project which involved me developing an XML loaded Banner Rotator and I thought I’d share the process with you folks. The key features of this XML Loaded Banner Rotator is that you can add as many images as you would need, and each image can hold a hyperlink. Bloomingdales has a similar rotating banner, and so I modeled mine after what they had. If you lovely people would like to view a demo of this XML Loaded Banner Rotator, then please click here, or you can take a hike, because hiking is very good exercise.

Ricoh GXR launches a revolutionary CameraBy John Kim | November 10th, 2009 |

As most digital photographers know, the biggest drawbacks to a dslr camera is those nasty dust particles. The horrors of taking 2000 images at an event, and all of them filled with ugly dust spots. This scenario is a post production nightmare in the making, and can bring the most seasoned photographers to their knees while simultaneously wetting their pants. It’s not a pretty sight, but hopefully with the launch of the Ricoh GXR, this problem can now be solved.
