Want to sell your House? Hire a Professional Photographer

Think about transactions that involve hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the best way these numbskulls promote their product is by using a cheap point and shoot. In every other industry, companies hire professional photographers to display clothing, cars, and gadgets in the best light possible. Well apparently when it comes to real estate, the norm is to capture your $300,000+ product on a $100 camera.

Recently a study was done by Redfin, and they compiled the data from both Boston and Long Island. Their findings showed that listings with better photos not only received more attention, but they commanded a higher asking price. Surprisingly, only 15% of the million plus listing incorporated professional photography, which is surprisingly low considering the amount of competition there is. Unfortunately, this only applies for listings that are in decent condition. If you were to sell a property that was in dire need of repair, high resolution images would only reveal more of the suckiness.

Photography will be dead by 2030: Canon Wonder Camera

By John Kim | October 8th, 2010    Retweet

Sick of all those lenses you have to purchase for your DSLR? Canon is in development of a camera that can go from macro all the way to 500mm focal length. It is technically a video camera, but with resolution so crisp that you could take a frame and use it in a large format print. That would literally solve the problem from those group photos where the one douche in the whole shot has his eyes closed. The camera can also determine the correct depth of field based on it’s advanced face recognition technology. The release of the Canon Wonder Camera is set out for a 2030 release.

25 Crazy Examples of High Speed Photography

By John Kim | October 5th, 2010    Retweet

People have always had a fascination for stopping motion, and capturing them in a photo. Having my subjects jump in the air and doing silly poses is pretty much a staple of my photography repertoire. Stopping motion can allow us to see a different world that can’t be processed by the normal human eye. And the concept of even freezing a balloon pop or falling water droplets is simple. You just need to set a camera to its highest shutter speed setting, but you do need to compensate for lighting and exposure. Although cameras with better performance would probably make it easier to capture anything high speed.

So here are 25 crazy examples of high speed photography:

FujiFilm Instax Mini 7

By John Kim | September 23rd, 2010    Retweet

As I learn and grow in my photography education, my appreciation of everything photography has also sparked my interest in novelty cameras such as the FujiFilm Instax Mini 7. One of the things that really stands out about the FujiFilm Instax Mini 7 is the design of the camera. When I think about Polaroids I imagine those big clunky cameras from the 90’s, the one that resembles a black brick. Not anymore though, the Instax Mini 7 brings a sleek kid friendly design that would seem fun to just carry around.

Real Life Superhero Project

By John Kim | September 11th, 2010    Retweet

When people hear the words “Super Hero” they instantly start thinking about comic books such as Spider Man, and Superman. Purely fictional characters with very non human abilities and hearts of gold. But even though we’ll never have a Spider Man or a Superman in our life time, there are actually real people donning costumes, and protecting the community. I’m sure you might have seen a glimpse of these real life superheroes on the news, and most likely there is a sense of mockery in the reporting.

Photo of the Day: Camera Toss Photography

By Jenny Kim | August 28th, 2010    Retweet

Camera Toss Photography

Have you ever tossed your SLR Camera up in the air? I dare you to because this is the result you’ll get. Although you may not get the right shot on the first toss, but with multiple tosses, you will have a higher chance of capturing a picture like the one above. This seems to be the trend for photography, but its also a risk of losing a camera. I have to admit, I’m not brave enough to toss my expensive camera, but I will definitely try it on my “OLD” Point and Shoot camera.

The Art of Camera Toss Photography

By John Kim | July 27th, 2010    Retweet

The digital camera age has sprouted some very interesting trends in photography. One of those trends is called the Camera Toss Photography or Kinetic Photography. This involves setting your camera to very low shutter speeds, maybe around 1 or 2 seconds, then throwing it in the air just as it’s about to take an exposure. Then you catch it before it hits the ground. Usually this is done at night near some sort of light source. The result is a fantastic array of colorful patterns that looks strangely Windows Screen Saverish.

Photo of the Day: Girl From Andong Village, Cambodia

By Jenny Kim | July 21st, 2010    Retweet

Photography by Mio Cade

I am truly touch by this photo. The little girl look so happy with her dog even though she lives in a slum located in Andong Village, Cambodia.  I don’t know if I would be able to produce such a beautiful smile like she does if I was in her situation.  This photo makes me want to go to Andong Village, Cambodia and help as many children as possible.

Please share your thoughts about the Girl From Andong Village, Cambodia
