The Ancient Art of ChinglishBy John Kim | May 8th, 2010
|

About 8 or 7 years ago, I remember buying the game called Samba de Amigo for the Dreamcast. Being a poor college student, I opted not to buy the official Maracas. Instead I searched online for an off market brand from China. When they finally came in the mail I quickly ripped open the packaging in anticipation. I then read the instructions on the box which went like this:
1. Don’t Place “Samba Fans” into hot, dank or under straight of the sunshine.
2. Keep out of the static electricity and outside force strongly.
3. Don’t dismantle.
4. Don’t touch it by hand mixed the mess.
5. Keep surface cleaned, Don’t clean it with organic substance.

Shake Weight For MenBy John Kim | May 2nd, 2010
|
This has nothing to do with photography or web development, but I just had to share this. This is the new workout machine called Shake Weight which apparently uses the inertia of the weights to give you sculpted and defined muscles. I don’t know about you, but doesn’t the Shake Weight remind you of something? Watch the video to find out.
Click here if you cannot see the Shake Weight video.

Photoshop is Now the New RealityBy John Kim | April 30th, 2010
|

Just a while back, the publication called ‘Popular Photography‘ held a photo contest where the two winners obviously had a large amount of Photoshop manipulation in their images. When the rest of the contestants were asked for their opinion on this matter, they obviously felt that any type of photo manipulation is not real photography. If you spent enough time in photography communities as I have you will realize that there are a large group of photographers that believe that true photography must capture reality without alterations. These people are very traditional, and want to stick to traditional practices as much as possible. But are they really just holding onto a ideal that doesn’t hold water?

Uncle Bob Changes the Photography IndustryBy John Kim | April 7th, 2010
|

A professional photographer has always been highly dependent on the equipment he carries, which leads most people to believe that it’s the equipment that makes the photographer. The reality is that even a semi professional entry level camera has so many bells and whistles that the average photography enthusiast will probably never even touch most of them. They probably don’t even have time to read one page in the manual, and so are limited to pointing, zooming, auto focusing, and shoot. Although he looks like he’s holding professional equipment, he has no clue how to utilize it to the fullest potential, and this is why Uncle Bob has been such an eye sore to a lot of professional photographers today. Uncle Bob by definitions is any person outside an industry who is performing a service in order to save money for themselves or for others. If you’ve ever seen someone at a wedding who looks like a photographer but has a camera that doesn’t quite look professional, that person is probably Uncle Bob.

Truth about Wedding Flowers and CakesBy John Kim | February 12th, 2010

Why is it that once you use the word “wedding” everything seems to inflate about double in price. I think there is a whole conspiracy around this industry and I found two videos that explains exactly what is happening. Don’t get screwed on your wedding day, shop around and find the best deals, it’s just not worth it. Trust me.

Programming is an exercise in mental stamina, and a developer may have to hold intense concentration for hours at a time. This can cause unnecessary stress for the programmer, and also physical pains, such as a sore wrist, back aches, and eye strain. Unless you are the type that eats, and breathes programming, you will probably feel the wear and tear of this career over time. But there are a few programming stress management tips I could give that can make your days go by smoothly.

Toshiba has the Most Reliable laptopsBy John Kim | January 29th, 2010
|
Is it just me or does it seem like laptops last only a few years and completely break down, which only makes sense. Laptops go through a tremendous amount of domestic abuse from it’s owners so it’s just a matter of time before they become completely useless. There are literally a hundred things that can go wrong on any given day, so it’s a wonder how the convenience can outweigh the cost. But people still flock to purchase a laptop, fill it’s hard drive full of important irreplaceable documents, then wet their pants when they lose it all. I guess that’s just the price we pay to look cool at Starbucks. It’s really not enough to look cool with your steaming hot cup of bean juice, they need to have a laptop to spill that bean juice all over. I hope you have some extra pairs of diapers. For this reason I feel it’s my civic duty to at least educate my 10 readers on what laptop brands are considered the most reliable.
